Singapore Mustafa Centre – Little India and Other Shopping

Shopping in Singapore: Mustafa Centre – Little India

When visiting Singapore, there are several spots that are a must-see. Here’s a review of a favorite shopping spot that should be included in any itinerary to Little India.

Visiting Mustafa Centre

One of the favorite spots in Little India for shopaholics is the Mustafa Centre, because it’s big and has everything under one roof. It can be reached with transportation by MRT, bus or taxi. When walking away from Little India on Serangood Road, it’s easy to find Mustafa Centre. It can’t be missed, because it’s a large three-floor structure. The exact location is on Syed Alwi Road and within walking distance of Farrer Park MRT Station, which is on the North East line. When leaving the station, cross the field towards all the lights and shops. That’s the mall. It’s not only huge, but it also gets very crowded, so plan on at least 4 or 5 hours. No need to rush, because this shopping mall is open 24-hours a day. It’s best to avoid Sundays altogether and stay away between the peak hours of 8 pm until 12 am. However, it can take a very long time to get a taxi when ready to leave, so take that into account when scheduling the visit.

Navigating the Mustafa Centre

Mustafa Centre is like a big western-style department store and has really good prices on souvenirs and other products. Keep in mind there is no bargaining, so be prepared to pay the full sticker price. Within the centre there are two stores. One of them has a supermarket and sells retail jewelry and household appliances. The other centre sells CDs, DVDs, books, electronic items, watches, clothing and footware. The prices of these items are suited to the budget market. When looking for something specific it can save a lot of time by asking a worker.

One of the impressive departments is the section that stocks hair products. They stock many types of authentic Indian hair oil, creams, shampoos and henna. Mobile phones are 20% cheaper than the market price and there are even rooms to rent for anyone who wants to sleep over.

All in all, tourists can find good prices on souvenirs and necessities, but the quality of merchandise and styles are not suitable to taste.
