Sheffield Things To Do – Attractions & Must See

Sheffield Things to Do

With a mix of old and new, great shopping, and plenty of things to do, Sheffield has something for everyone visiting the South Yorkshire area.

History, Arts, Culture

The impressive Cholera Monument and Memorial Gardens commemorate the victims of the 1832 Asiatic cholera epidemic. The beautiful Cathedral Church of St Marie lies just off the main shopping street in the city. It’s a perfect example of an English Roman Catholic Church. Visitors take a step back in time when they enter Connisboro’s Castle. It also provides amazing views from atop the keep. Built in 1897, The Lyceum Theatre exemplifies Edwardian architecture. It is also the only remaining example of the work of theatre designer, William Sprague, outside of London. On the modern end, Millennium Square features an exhibit called “Rain”. It consists of nine stainless steel spheres of various sizes, intended to suggest raindrops that have just fallen. LED lights in the pavement make the square sparkle at night.

Shopping, Flowers, Aquarium

Meadowhall shopping center attracts 30 million visitors every year. Along with 270 stores, it has an 11-screen Cinema, the Coca-Cola Oasis food court, and a giant 48-screen-video wall. Colorful beds of spring bulbs, magnolia trees in full bloom, and green foliage make The Sheffield Botanical Gardens look quite stunning in spring. The Sheffield Winter Garden houses 2,500 plants from around the world. It is the largest temperate glasshouse in any European city and a great place to take a stroll. Located right outside of Sheffield, the small town of Matlock Bath has an interesting Aquarium and some good restaurants.
