Kuwait Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Kuwait Shopping

Kuwait is an oil rich country that has an incredibly high population of people who moved there looking for work. With everything from traditional markets to modern malls, Kuwait offers visitors an unforgettable shopping experience and amzing seasonal discounts.

Malls

Stores in the Sultan Center Mall sell everything from imported groceries to clothing and electronics. The Avenues mall has just about every store you can think of, great restaurants, and the best movie theater in Kuwait. During the sale season, discounts can reach as much as 80%. For a quieter shopping experience, try the Al-Mohalab Mall. It has several fitness centers, good cafes, and many major brand stores. The Arraya Shopping Mall attached to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel features mostly high-end shops and also has some great restaurants. Located in the Sharq area of Kuwait City, the Sharq Mall has its own private Marina. Most shops are middle-of-the-range, but its food court has every fast food chain possible. The Marina area is nice for a stroll and features a good view of the downtown Kuwait skyline.

Outside the Malls

Some people prefer to walk around the bazaars instead of the malls. These bazaars offer a number of goods, though dates are one of the country’s best known products. You can also go shopping at Saahel al-Bahrain if you’re looking to buy clothes and robes.

Stores

For traditional gifts such as Arabian perfume or incense, check out “The Friday” located right outside the marina Mall. Jarir Bookstore has the best service and good prices on books, school supplies, and computers. Lulu Hypermarket carries a good selection of groceries, clothes, and electronics at better prices than most. Vendors hawk Kuwaiti traditional dresses, handicrafts, dates, carpets, and gold at Kuwait’s oldest outdoor market, Mubarakia Shouk. Haggle for the best prices. One of biggest department stores in Kuwait, and part of a chain, Carrefour has lower prices on food and clothes than most other department stores.
