Jacksonville Things to Do
When you head to Jacksonville, you can expect great weather and a ton of fun things to do. Whether you’re hoping to spend some time in the water or want to escape the heat in an air conditioned building, we’ve got the thing for you.
There are plenty of beaches in and around Jacksonville. So many that you could probably go to a different one each day of your trip. Jacksonville Beach features a nice pier that allows you to walk out to the water. From there, you’ll be able to get great photos of the shore. Atlantic Beach tends to be less crowded, so it’s a good choice if you want a bit more privacy. All of these locations offer great opportunities for swimming, sunning, and surfing. From the beach at Huguenot Park, though, you’ll get a good view of military ships floating by.
Parks and Trails
The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve is expansive, yet blends neatly with residential and commercial areas. While walking through it, you’ll get to experience breathtaking views. Stop by the Visitor Center if you want to learn more about it and to plan your hike. Alternatively, Fort Pinch is a well-preserved Civil War fort that has plenty of natural beauty in addition to the history.
If you’re already at Jacksonville Beach, check out the Jacksonville Beach museum. It offers a look at the history of the beach’s development, along with several artifacts. Though not a museum per se, Sally Corp offers tours and educational experiences related to their animatronics. You’ll get to see how the company make the robotic animals at theme parks. The Museum of Contemporary Art is home to a wide variety of works from the 1960s to the present, and kids always enjoy the Museum of Science and History.
If you have the time and want a nice, personalized experience, consider chartering a boat to take you on a journey. Some companies will take you out on a large sail boat, where you’ll be able to relax on the open waves. Those who like fishing should schedule a trip with a fishing charter to catch the bigger fish found in the deeper waters.
Sports lovers are sure to find a home in Jacksonville. At the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, you can catch a game with the Jacksonville Suns. The Jacksonville Jaguars play football at EverBank Field, and you can see professional basketball, ice hockey, and indoor football at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Each team has its own schedule, so plan your trip accordingly depending on what you want to see.
