DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) – Howth – Transportation

DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport): Howth

Ireland is a frequent destination for travelers from all over the world. If you have your eye on Ireland for a future trip, the DART is a transportation option you should definitely look into, especially for Howth travel.

Dublin Area Rapid Transport

DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) is the train line running along Dublin’s coastline from Malahide and Howth southwards as far as Greystones, Co Wicklow. Its service also connects with Mainline services to other cities in Ireland and even to Belfast in Northern Ireland. DART also operates trains every 30 minutes or so from Connolly Street Station, and a trip that takes around 30 minutes.

Stops

Visiting Malahide Castle from Howth is quite easy with the DART, take this train from Howth to Howth Junction and then change trains to go to Malahide. The main attraction in Malahide is Malahide Castle, a 15-20 minute walk from the train station. The train ride isn’t long and connecting to the Malahide train is simple since Malahide is the terminus for that line. Just look for it on the overhead signs.

Fare

If you buy a “Day Return” ticket you may save a bit of money when travelling roundtrip, but even if you’re buying separate tickets for each leg of your trip a single fare is usually only about 3 Euros.

Tips

For the best views on your journey, you may want to sit on the left side of the train, and when you return Howth Station is at the end of the line so no need to rush for a seat. The trip is especially worth it if you get out of Howth downtown area/seaside area and walk up into the residential/commercial areas.
