Bulgaria – What To Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Bulgaria What to Pack

You’ll get the most out of your visit to Bulgaria if you know what to pack.

Luggage

Having lots of luggage makes you more prone to inspection by customs. Pack lightly, leaving plenty of room for souvenirs. Clothes and toiletries in Bulgaria are very inexpensive. If you pack the bare essentials, you can purchase additional items upon arrival.

Clothing

Summers are hot, but pack something warm anyway because the weather can be unpredictable. Bring an umbrella or a foldable raincoat. Pack warmer clothes if you’ll be In the mountains; the temperature drops considerably at night. In winter, bring plenty of shawls, hats, gloves, and socks.

Wear boots for off-road excursions or winter travel, even in dry conditions. Sneakers are best for walking in town.

Toiletries

Most items are available at local pharmacies. Feminine products are not very high-quality and, in some places, aren’t readily available.

Many public toilets don’t provide toilet paper. Take some with you when traveling around Bulgaria.

Cameras and Converters

Cameras are more expensive here than in the US. In some places, you may not be able to purchase one. Electrical plugs (two-pronged) are designed for the EU standard of electric current. Bring an adapter if needed for charging cellphone and other electronics.

Medications

Many medications are available here, but go by different names than in the West. Bring your prescriptions and know the Latin names of the medicines you take.

Point It

If you don’t speak Bulgarian, Point It  is a book featuring pictures of everything from toothbrush to cable car, so you can point to what you’re looking for.
