Alexandria Warnings and Dangers

Most Viewed Warnings and Dangers in Alexandria

Home to the amazing Bibliotheca Alexandrina library, Alexandria is also known for its quaint cafes and impressive beaches. Even though Alexandria offers great expectations as a vacation spot, you still need to adhere to a few warnings.

Beware of Aggressive Vendors Near the Cruise Port

Some of these persistent vendors do not give up. They will follow and bother you until you have to ask them to leave. In addition, greedy or hungry vendors are not immune to picking your pockets as a way to get extra cash. Always keep both eyes on your purse and luggage. Also, if you are a woman, you need to cover up and dress conservatively or else the locals will gossip about you behind your back.

Do Not Kiss Your Partner in Public

Egypt is not as liberated a place as you might imagine. The country consists primarily of modest followers of Islam which means that it is not acceptable to kiss someone in public. Actually, kissing another person in front of others is illegal. Even so, the police may not necessarily put you under arrest. However, locals may harass you. Enjoy your kissing in private.

Alexandria Officials Do Not Favor Using Illegal Drugs

Unlike liberal Amsterdam, using illegal drugs in Alexandria is not tolerated. It is against Egyptian law to purchase, sell or use drugs. This is a serious issue. For example, if you are a drug dealer, expect to receive capital punishment for your drug-related crimes. Even so, many people who live in Egypt smoke marijuana and hash. However, as a tourist you owe it to yourself to avoid this temptation.
