Tips on Sharjah Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Sharjah Warnings and Dangers

The United Arab Emirates is particularly famous for being rich, stable, and peaceful. Visitors who come to this desert country often find welcoming attitudes and lots of familiar international brands, but some dangers can make a great vacation to Sharjah into a nightmare.

Heat

While every traveler knows that Sharjah is in the midst of a desert, they may not appreciate just how hot it gets. The average temperature during the summertime exceeds 100 degrees, making it dangerous to be out with improper clothing and without water. Every building, however, has air conditioning, making it easy to escape the heat. Bring liquids wherever you go to prevent dehydration.

Dry Country

Sharjah and the UAE follow the Islamic law that forbids alcohol, meaning that it is a crime to be found in possession of beer, wine, or liquor unless you have the proper credentials. Even so, some hotels and restaurants will bend the law and serve alcohol. Even so, be certain not to ask for any kind of alcohol deliberately to avoid offending hosts or attracting the attention of the authorities.

Women and Company

Another Islamic law followed in Sharjah refers to the presence of unmarried women. Most in the UAE are strict Muslims and will not be around an unmarried woman who is not accompanied by men, as they believe this prevents the risk of impropriety. Men should never enter into a place where a single woman is (such as an elevator) to respect this custom, and women should not be offended if men in Sharjah will not come near them if they are alone.
