For such a tiny town sitting on the banks of the Delaware River, New Hope features a bustling tourist industry with a wide variety of attractions, shops and beautiful vistas for the eager day tripper escaping from Philadelphia or New Jersey the for the day.

Tour the Scenic Delaware Canal

The last functioning segment of the 19th century tow path is still able to transport tourists around town. The banks are well-paved and landscaped. Rent a bicycle for the day at one of the local shops, go for a leisurely stroll with your family or take a seat on one of the canal boats. Guided walking tours are available. The canal itself is 60 miles long, so if taking the boat or bicycle tour, plan for a long day out and about in the bucolic Pennsylvania countryside.

Take a Step Back in Time on the Historic Steam Engine

As the coal and steel industry built this great state, so too did the railroads. New Hope fully restored their classic train station along with a stretch of rail. Take the kids on an hour-long trip through farmland and scenic river bank on the Ivyland Express. The historic steam engine leaves the station every hour on the hour, so there’s always another tour available to fit into your busy day with the family.

Take in a Show at the Bucks County Playhouse

This theatre situated in an old farmhouse has been putting on dramas, musicals and Broadway shows for over 100 years. Known as one of the premier summer theaters in the nation, it has hosted a variety of stars of the stage over the years such as Helen Hayes, Lillian Gish, Grace Kelly, Larry Hagman, Jack Klugman and Merv Griffen. Situated on the banks of the river in downtown New Hope, there’ plenty of parking and restaurants nearby when making a night of the next great off-Broadway show. Museums and Old Homes

Part of the charm of New Hope is the plethora of elegant old homes that were built in the first centuries of our country’s youth. The Parry Mansion built in 1784 sits across the street from the Bucks County Playhouse and offers two guided tours during the day in the summer. Jump off the train in Ivyland and visit the James A. Michener Museum. When you return to New Hope, the Haas-Muth Gallery offers fine artwork and unique furnishings.

Snacks and Shops Line Main Street

After enjoying your fill of history, enjoy french pastry at C’est La Vie, a tiny bistro with Old World charm. A variety of shops offer clothing, collectibles, antiques and food. Parking is found throughout the village. The nearby Phillips Mill artists colony ensures that there is always a unique item to find and bring home.
