Getting Around Jeju-do – Car, Train, Bus & Taxi

Jeju-do Transportation

Renowned as a Unesco World Natural Heritage Site and nature reserve off the southern coast of South Koreas, the volcanic island of Jeju draws millions of visitors per year for hiking, exploring lava tube caves, and viewing wildlife, waterfalls and humpback whales. Getting around the island takes some careful planning due to its remote natural attractions.

Getting There

Although the New Seaworld Ferry and other water vessels are available from mainland ports, it’s easy and affordable to take a one-hour flight from Seoul on major air carriers. Jeju International Airport sits just 3 kilometers from the island’s capital of Jeju City, allowing quick access to hotels, restaurants and nightlife.

Buses, Taxis and Limousines

It’s simple to grab a bus, taxi and limo from distinctly identified transportation stands outside the domestic and international terminals of Jeju Airport. Limousines are best for traveling to Jungman Beach or to Seogwipo City on the northern side of the island, about 45 minutes to 60 minutes from the airport. The Airport Limousine buses pick up and drop off visitors at major hotels in both Jeju City and Seogwipo.

Rental Cars

Avoid language barriers with Korean-speaking guides by having your own wheels. Almost all the main attractions are outside the cities, so you’ll have more flexibility for exploring lava tubes and hiking the forested national park. Pick up a rental car at the information desk near the arrival gates; options include the local Jeju OK Rent a Car and mainstream agencies such as Avis, Hertz and Enterprise. Most major street signs are written in English, Chinese and Korean, so it’s easy to get around. Minor roads, however, are typically signed in Hangul.
