Rabat Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Rabat Shopping

Rabat, Morocco, has a plentitude of street markets and fun shops. Here are insider travel tips for shopping in Rabat.

Crafts & Clothing

Rabat can be very modern with its shops, but of course the best places to see local crafts and clothing are the street markets or the Medina: also known as the Old City or Souk. Most storefronts open around 9:00 a.m. and close around 7:00 a.m. Some will close during the day for about two or three hours. You’ll find  jewelry, carpets and rugs, clothes and crafts, leather, and second-hand goods.

Markets

Just off Hassan II ave is the Municipal Market which has vegetables, fruit, herbs, and spices. The medina are best on Sundays. Near the local university is the Agdal Market off Av des Dades. There are also several local markets at Sale on Av de 11 Janvier on Thursdays, Bouznika on Fridays, Temara on Saturdays, and Bouknadel and Skhirat on Sundays.

Souq

The Souq is located in the Old Town or Medina. Walk along Mohammed V, cross rue Hassan II, and you’ll come to Marche Cenral and Rue Souika. The Souq has shops selling all kinds of goods to visitors and locals alike. If you’re looking for souvenirs you should go to Rue Des Consuls. It gets its name from the 19th century diplomats that lived in this area. There are carpet shops along this road as well.
