Mostar Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus and Airport Tips

Mostar Transportation

Mostar is situated in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, the cultural capital of the area. It’s an important tourist destination, and the main modes of transportation are the bus and train lines that connect to a number of national and international destinations.

Taxis and Rental Cars

Renting a car can make getting around a lot easier, but make sure that all its documents are in order–especially if you plan on crossing a border. Most car rental companies are prepared for this situation and can help you out. Taxis can also take you off the beaten path where public transportation may not travel, as well as from the airport. Whether you decide to rent a car or take a taxi, you’ll pay more than you would on a bus or train.

Trains

The train from Ploce to Mostar takes you through the heart of the lush Neretva Delta where you can watch green reed beds, vineyards, orchards, and market gardens as you pass. Bring cold drinks or water with you if you don’t want to drink the local thick, black coffee available onboard. The train carriages are clean and have functioning toilets.

Buses

Many travelers take advantage of the frequent bus service from Mostar to Dubrovnik. Be aware, however, that there are multiple border crossings where a passport check will be necessary, and customs delays could make your trip longer. Mostar’s local transportation system consists of yellow buses which run to some of the surrounding towns. Some buses available at the airport or bus station (which is in old town next to St. James Church) are double-decker busses with comfortable chairs to sleep in.
