Main Station Area in Munich and Other Warnings and Dangers

Warnings and Dangers in Munich, Main Station Area

Munich generally has a reputation for being peaceful and safe, even for being such a large city. Understanding which areas surrounding Munich’s Main Station you need to avoid will help you have a safe time in your travels.

Station Entrances

The exits and entrances of Munich Main Station may be host to beggars. They tend to be harmless but can be annoying in asking you for money. Some of these people do sleep or use the bathroom in the area right outside the train station. If you give a firm “no” and keep walking, beggars are likely to leave you alone.

Additionally, it is not uncommon for people to drink anywhere they want in Munich. The area right outside the train station is no exception. It is best to avoid talking to anybody who appears intoxicated.

Senefelderstr

This street is frequented by travelers due to the Jaegers Youth Hostel, Euro Youth Hotel, and Senefelder Hotel, but it is not the best area. Some travelers report witnessing people using drugs in doorways there. Unfortunately, there is not much that police do to clean up this area.

Travelers also report that teenagers who tend to hang out in this area can be rude and intimidating, so you may want to avoid areas like the English Garden during peak times.

Area Opposite Hauptbahnhof

The area right outside the Easyinternet Cafe opposite the station is occupied day and night, and drunk people do tend to congregate here. This area can be seedy, especially at night. Travelers report feeling uncomfortable about erotic shops and nightclubs that are not family-friendly. If you are traveling with children, you may want to book a hotel room further away from Munich’s main station.

Overall, there are not many dangers immediately outside Munich Main Station. Most warnings are to avoid nuisances, but the area does not experience many violent crimes.
