Fun Things to Do in Brunei – Attractions & Must See

Brunei Things to Do

Brunei, a wealthy country in the islands of Southeast Asia, is filled with beautiful Islamic architecture. Travelers can partake of day trips to the national parks, go on boat rides, visit extravagant national landmarks, and find other fun things to do in Brunei.

The Chinese Temple

There is a strong Chinese influence on the culture and architectural landscape of Brunei. This is apparent when you see the Chinese Temple in Central Bandar Seri Begawan. It is one of the few religious landmarks in the country that aren’t related to Islam. The country’s laws are designed around the Muslim religion, including prohibiting smoking and drinking.

Take a Boat Ride to Bangar

One of the best day trips you can take while you are in the country is a boat trip to the city of Bangar. The ride is very exciting, thanks to the fact that it is done via speed boat on a twisting and turning river. Some say it is every bit as fun as going on a roller coaster ride. The only difference here is this trip usually lasts around 45 minutes. It is fairly inexpensive and the boat ride itself is almost worth the trip. Despite the blazing speeds, try to catch some of the beautiful scenery as it whizzes by you on the boat. Once you are in Bangar, spend some time in the Ulu Temburong National Park.

Visit an Extravagant Religious Landmark

The Sultan of Brunei celebrated his 25th year of reign in 1992. For the occasion, the Jame’Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque was built. It is the largest mosque in the country and is very extravagant. The most impressive part is the 29 golden domes that decorate the facility to commemorate him being the 19th Sultan. The opulence inside is mind-blowing, but it is closed to outsiders. There is also no photography allowed at the mosque.

An Opulent Museum

The Royal Regalia is a museum dedicated to the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The museum depicts several phases of his rule including the coronation. It is really amazing to see some of the gifts he was given during the course of his rule. You should know that you have to take off your shoes before entering the museum.
