Oatman Things to Do

If you want to experience the Old West you’ve seen in cowboy movies, then it’s time to visit Oatman! Here’s what some visitors have claimed are the best things to do in Oatman, Arizona.

Winding Roads

Take a ride to Oatman on Route 66 for an exhilarating, terrifying, breathtaking, gut-wrenching, and astonishingly beautiful experience. You don’t want to miss this stretch of Route 66, as it offers the thrill of a roller coaster without the cost to ride. The view of the desert is simply indescribable and the drive is unforgettable.

Old-Fashioned Photos

Whether you prefer gunslinger swagger or dance hall swing it doesn’t really matter. The options here are endless. For those of you who are a little short on imagination, Tom and Linda–owners of Making Memories Old Time Photos–have oodles of photos and suggestions to generate ideas. Dress up, get into character, and have some fun. For $36, you can leave with an awesome “Old Time” photo that will always make you smile and remind you of the fun you had in that quirky, little town of Oatman, Arizona.

Cowboys Shows

Pulling into Oatman on an average day, you may find that main street is filled with tourists just looking for something to do in this old mining town. But watch out, you might find yourself watching a cowboy show that starts off with the “bang” sound of a gun! That obviously gets everybody’s attention, and next someone pretends to have been shot and falls to the ground. Next thing you know a “showdown” reenactment is well under way–which is quite a lot of fun to experience. You’ve seen the old westerns, and now it feels like you’re almost a part of it! Another fun fact is you’ll probably see burros (donkeys) just walking about throughout the day– and if you’ve never seen a donkey, they’re actually quite cute and distracting.

Tip: Note that on the main street of Oatman these Old West showdowns and shootouts occur daily.
