Things to Do in Cala D’or, Spain

Cala D’or Things to Do

Heading to Cala D’or for a nice coastal getaway? Here are 5 things to do in Cala D’or, Spain, that other visitors have loved.

Cala Ferrara Beach

Cala Ferrara is the furthest beach area from the Cala D’or centre, but only a 10 minute walk. There is a shopping centre here with the usual gift shops but also a chemist, car hire, a supermarket and many eating and drinking places. There is a huge children’s play area that only opens in the evenings. The beach is a reasonable size and there are beds and parasols to hire. The sea is gently shelving and safe to bathe in, and the views out to sea are fascinating and full of an array of passing boats. There is a very good cafe/snack bar on the beach and a small shop selling beach goods and groceries.

Tip: It can, however, be crowded and space is a premium – you have to go early to get a spot.

Glass-Bottom Boat

Take a ride on the Starfish, a glass-bottom catamaran that operates along the southeastern Majorcan coast. The boat goes by Cala D’or on daily visits to Porto Colom, Mondrango, Cala Figuera and to other various coves and beaches. Take the Porto Colom trip. The boats are clean and fairly comfortable and they travel fast. Once they stop for a moment a wave of sea life comes into view under your feet beyond the glass.

Tip: There are toilets onboard and refreshments. On some trips it is possible to swim from the boat.

Cala Gran Beach

Cala Gran is a small beach close to the town centre. It has safe bathing areas and lovely palm trees for shade. The beach is rather small and can be crowded. There is a shop here selling food, drinks, and beach goods and a cafe.

Playa Cala Esmeralda

One of Cala D’ors prettiest beaches is situated between Cala Gran and Cala Ferrera. It is surrounded by hotels at its head but is open from the beach out to sea and has beautiful wooded edges. There is a small open air cafe here and the land train stops here each hour.

The Marina

Cala D’or has a large marina a short downhill walk from the town centre or a short ride on the land train. There are some fantastic yachts and cruisers moored here and BBC presenter Chris Evans has two vessels here: Ginger 1 and Ginger 2. There is only one clothing shop to browse but many restaurants and bars. There is also constant movement on the water, which makes this a great place to sit with a drink and watch the activity and view.
