Shopping in Ocho Rios

Ocho Rios, Jamaica, has a variety of shopping options, but you can find the best items at craft markets where local vendors sell Jamaican trinkets, coffee, art, and handmade crafts.

Supermarkets

Seow’s Supercenter is clean and well-stocked with a variety of local and imported foods and goods. Advertised as “the everything store,” they have fresh snacks, beer, liquor, magazines, phone cards, toiletries and more. Take some locally-made food items home if you can.

Shopping Malls

Close to the harbor, the Taj Mahal Mall is a replica of India’s Taj Mahal, and it may be the most famous shopping center in Ocho Rios. Buy souvenirs, beach necessities, and local items, but beware that vendors can be a little pushy in order to get you to buy something, and the prices here tend to be higher than other shops in town.

Island Plaza is a typical mall that sells jewelry and crafts. It’s good for a break from the beach, and may be the best mall in Jamaica.

Craft Markets

There are two big craft markets downtown where you can buy beautiful wood carvings, paintings, T shirts, bracelets, chokers, Rastafarian hats, and handmade masks. Watch artisans at work and barter for works definitely not made in China. Market vendors accept both Jamaican and U.S. dollars, and they’re always ready to bargain with you.

At the Ocho Rios Craft Park on the main street more than 150 vendors sell everything from sandals to woodcarvings to straw goods. Nearby, Olde Market also has plenty of handmade goods for sale. These markets are closed on Sundays. You can also shop smaller craft markets located near the Sandals and Couples resorts.
