Michigan Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Michigan Things to Do

Michigan offers a vibrant metropolitan city in Detroit, yet also smaller, must-see attractions throughout the state.

Renaissance Center in Detroit

General Motors Renaissance Center is located on the waterfront tourist area. Located on the Detroit Riverfront, the GM Renaissance Center is a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers, rising 73 stories above the Detroit River. The complex is home to General Motors World Headquarters. The central tower is the tallest all-hotel (the 1,298 room Marriott) skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. The walk along the waterway is beautiful and the building itself is a wonder. Walking inside the center displays General Motors newest cars, which car enthusiasts will enjoy, and the complex also has dozens of stores, a four-screen movie theater, and an 1,100-seat food court. Attractions include the new Asian Village, a riverfront plaza, roof-top restaurant, and a 44,000-square-foot vehicle-display area. TheWintergarden Atrium is a favorite portion for visitors, with wonderful panoramic views of the Detroit River and Windsor.

Kalamazoo Town Square

The center of Kalamazoo has a lovely little rectangular square in the best traditions of the European urban planning. The four sides of the area are lined by buildings from different time periods, with the respective architectural preferences attached. The main juxtaposition is between the majestic gothic splendor of the churches and the imposing art-deco lines of the administrative buildings. The very center of the square is graced by a sculpted fountain referring to the turbulent past of America. This is a wonderful place to meet locals in their pursuit of leisure.

Liberty Lego

Liberty Lego is a display of over 1 million bricks! It has a massive cityscape along with a custom countryside. They also have Star Wars scenes and models–all the retro, collectible stuff. For the kids, there’s a mini-figure scavenger hunt, plus a bunch of working trains and a build pit for little hands. You can have your photo taken on a Green Screen and be shrunk down to Lego size in interactive photos that make funny, cute little souvenirs. A retail area in the front that sells hard to find sets and discontinued minifigures. This is a must for any Lego fan or family of Lego-loving little ones.
