London, Ontario, Things To Do – Attractions & Must See

London, Ontario, Things to Do

Canadian culture is on display in London, Ontario. With lots of parks and museums, it makes a delightful city full of things to do all year round.

Victoria Park and Other Outdoor Spaces

One of the best places to start here is with a visit to Victoria Park. With eighteen acres in downtown London, it makes a restful place to relax. This is where you will find many varied festivals all throughout the year including an international food festival. At Christmas time, the park comes alive with lights and a public ice skating rink. Check out the Covent Garden Market in the downtown area for more public spaces to enjoy. You can also enjoy the Western Fair. This is a fair that is held annually at the Western Fairgrounds. It is a major agricultural fair with lots of livestock exhibits and plenty of food stalls and local cultural exhibits. Bring the family to Fanshawe Pioneer Village. Here, you can see the sights and sounds of a 19th century village as it was back then.

Local Museums

London, Ontario, is home to several fun museums. The Museum London focuses on multiple kinds of exhibits. There’s a sculpture gallery that shows off the work of local artists. Have lunch at the museum’s cafeteria and take in a fine view of the local river. Another museum focuses attention on the area’s prehistory. The London Museum of Archaeology and Lawson Prehistoric Village makes an ideal day trip. Here you will find a partly reconstructed 500 year old Iroquoian village that you can tour as well as gardens showing off the vegetables the Iroquois grew to feed their people. There’s also a long house showing off how people lived back then. If you come here during the summer, you can talk with archeologists who are conducting onsite digs that you can directly participate in when you are there. There are many other museums in the area including the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. This hall celebrates lots of other Canadian sports as well including the many achievements of Canada’s beloved hockey teams.
