Taxis, Puerto Vallarta – Transportation

Taxis in Puerto Vallarta

In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, you’ll most likely find taxis to be the best way to get around the city. At the very least, you’ll need one to get from the airport to your hotel.

From the Airport

You could be scammed when getting a taxi at the airport in terms of timeshare salespeople. Timeshare sales are very aggressive in Puerto Vallarta, and there are taxi drivers waiting for you right off the plane who will instead try to lure you into a timeshare presentation. Ignore these salespeople and continue on through the double glass doors to an actual taxi stand. Prices to get from the airport to local hotels should be reasonable.

Tips for Taxis

There are multiple taxi companies in Puerto Vallarta, and you’ll find nearly all taxis to be traditional yellow cars: usually compact vehicles that are in good condition. They’re often parked outside of hotels, or near restaurants and attractions. You may find that your hotel has general prices posted, and you can often ask the front desk to help you arrange a taxi if needed. Prices will vary. It’s important that you get a fare up front. Don’t wait until you arrive at your destination to start talking money.

Always make sure your driver confirms your destination and doesn’t try to take you someplace else. Sometimes they will take you to a different restaurant or a further point in order to get a higher fare. Be firm but polite to ensure you are paying a fair price and arriving at your desired destination.
