Kansas City Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Kansas City Things to Do

Kansas City is in the middle of the nation, and there are a lot of things to see and do here. In the early 1900s Kansas City was a center of Jazz and Blues, and its barbecue is famous. The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is here, which makes sense because the most dominant team of that era was from Kansas City. But it is a modern day city, with enough fun attractions to keep you busy for many days.

Country Club Plaza

The Country Club Plaza bills itself as the oldest shopping center in the United States, and it might be. It was designed in 1922 with classic architecture. It is a 55 acre complex with many trendy shops and restaurants. At Christmas there are 280,000 lights decorating the buildings. There are also several statues and monuments. You can also take a horse drawn carriage ride there.

General Entertainment

Depending on the season, you can enjoy the Kansas City Chiefs football team, or the Kansas City Royals baseball team. There are also many casinos and concert halls. The city also has the Toy and Miniatures Museum, which is large and impressive. Festivals of many kinds are also common in Kansas City, check local listings.

Historical Sites

The River Market area still thrives, and it began when Kansas City was just a small town on the river.  The Union Station is also impressive, a grand old building downtown that still has trains passing though.  If you want to catch a piece of the history of jazz, visit the area of 18th and Vine. Kansas City also has more than 200 fountains spread around the downtown area.
