Tips on Zante Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Zante Warnings and Dangers

The Greek island of Zante provides amazing views and some of the bluest water you’ve ever seen, but there are also some potential dangers you need to know about. Here are a few tips for avoiding dangerous (and undesirable) situations.

Boat Sickness

When traveling from one island to another, boat operators often travel at high rates of speed. If the sea is choppy while traveling, the boat will hop and bounce, which can cause not only headaches but some whiplash as well. If you are easily susceptible to this, sit in the front of the boat. Bouncing will be reduced.

Should you feel sick while on a boat gently rocking in the waves it is because your equilibrium is off. Getting into the water can help with this, even if you can’t touch the bottom. If this isn’t an option, move toward the center of the boat and sit (or lay) in a position as far down in the boat as possible. This reduces the rocking sensation.

You can take motion sickness medication before riding the boat to help avoid any potential effects, but once it starts you’ll have to wait it out.

Jellyfish

Around the Laganas Beach you’ll see a large number of purple jellyfish. Stay clear of these creatures as jellyfish stings are extremely painful and can leave a scar. Pay attention to signs placed on the beach about jellyfish, which means you’ll want to stay clear of the water.

Argassi Main Strip

When you walk down the main street in Zante, you’ll be hounded from all sides by people trying to get you into their restaurant. It is best to continue on and avoid conversation. If you walk down the Argassi strip during early evening hours there will be more tourists out and this will reduce the amount of direct contact you experience. You will likely wait longer for dinner, but it can reduce your level of harassment.

Undersized Airport

A large number of tourists come in through the Zante airport. The airport itself is far too undersized and can’t accommodate this many visitors at once. Pay special attention to your belongings. Avoid buying food and drinks in the airport as they’re drastically overpriced due to the limited selections and large amount of patrons.
