Things To Do in Montville, Australia

Montville Things to Do

Montville is a relatively small town located along the eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. With only a population of 886 people, the town is sparsely populated, but there remains several things to do when in the area.

National Parks

Kondalilla National Park is located 100 kilometers north of Brisbane and near Montville. It’s positioned on the Sunshine Coast hinterland and is named after the spectacular Kondlilla Falls.

There are two main walks to choose from. The Picnic Creek walk is a round trip of 2.4 kilometers and considered an easy, reasonably level walk for all fitness levels. The main, or Rock Pools, walk takes you to the top of the falls and the swimming hole. At the top, you will find a small part of the falls. This walk is 3.2 kilometers and is a little more rigorous. It is a well-defined track with mostly steep inclines that should be treated as stairs. The falls themselves are a result of the Skene Creek falling 90 meters. Interestingly, the original Aboriginal name means rushing waters.

If you’re not visiting Kondalilla, another park near Montville is Obi Obi Gorge National Park. This makes for yet another great place to go hiking in.

Outdoor Exploration

The Blackall Range runs behind the Sunshine Coast parallel to the ocean. Starting with Maleny in the south, a road travels along the ridge and links Montville, Flaxton, and Mapleton. A drive up the range is a very popular outing for residents and tourist alike. There are many activities to take part in along this route. Besides the parks that surround Montville, shops, galleries, and restaurants can be found in all of the range town. There are wineries at Maleny and Montville and both bed and breakfasts and small hotel accommodations as well. There is even a reception center on the east side of the range, which caters mainly to weddings. The area offers amazing views regardless. Spring is an especially nice time to visit, even if your outdoor exploration is limited to the icy elements; there are some glorious blooms to be seen along the streets in Montville.
