Safety Tips in Gibraltar – Travel Safety Tips

Gibraltar Warnings and Dangers

There is much to love about Gibraltar, but before you make your way to the city, you need to understand the potential dangers ahead of time. Here are a few travel safety tips to keep in mind.

Never Feed the Animals

You will see signs all around the city about not feeding the animals. However, you’ll see monkeys and a variety of other animals around the city and really want to (especially if you are an animal lover). The problem is animals can become aggressive and even violent if you do feed them. So, while you can take pictures of the animals and admire them from afar, don’t feed them.

Change Out Your Gibraltar Pounds

When visiting the country you can use a few different forms of currency. This includes the Gibraltar pound, the British pound, or the euro. However, once you leave it is especially difficult to exchange your Gibraltar pounds. That is why you need to change out your money before you leave the country unless you want to be left with it in your pocket for a future trip.

Park Outside of Gibraltar if Driving to the Country

It is generally better (and easier) to park in La Linea and cross over on foot than to drive in. Driving in is not recommended as parking is often difficult, not to mention there are problems with traffic. You will be better off to simply park in La Linea. There is an underground parking lot, so your vehicle will be safe (it is paid parking but that helps with security as well).

Get a Multiple-Entry Visa

Gibraltar is connected with Spain. However, it is not part of the Schengen Agreement, which can cause problems with your visa. Whenever you are required to have a visa to visit the country, make sure it is a multi-entry visa and not a single-entry visa. If you only grab a single-entry visa and you try to get back into Spain you are going to find that you are not allowed back in, which may cause some problems with your travel plans. So, just do yourself a favor and pay the extra money for a multi-entry visa.
