Granada Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Granada Transportation

With its lush natural surroundings and centuries of history, Granada, Nicaragua, is a coveted vacation destination. A few tips will help you get adequate transportation while you’re in the city.

Taxis in Granada

The taxis around the airport will try to charge you twice as much as those outside. Sometimes even the outside drivers will try to increase their price if they see you’re not a local. Talk with the drivers and negotiate for a lower, reasonable cost. You should also reconsider getting into a cab with an unlicensed driver. The reputable drivers wear yellow-collared shirts.

Transportation from Managua to Granada

You can take a shuttle service from Managua airport to Granada. Shuttle companies will take you to your hotel using cars and vans. This service is usually offered to tourists, but locals use it when they travel in and out of the country. The fee is less than you would pay for a taxi and they will also shuttle you back to the airport for your return flight. Some shuttle companies will transport you no matter which airline you choose. The driver will show up with your name on a sign and wait for you, even if your flight is delayed.

The Local Yellow Bus

For a small fee, you can take the local bus throughout the city. You do not need a reservation. The route is clearly posted on each vehicle, so you’ll know when and where to go. Usually the rides take less than 30 minutes depending on your destination. There isn’t a long wait time, because each bus departs at regular intervals during the day.
