Belgrade Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Belgrade Shopping

From the local markets and street vendors to some of the largest malls in Serbia, you can find just about anything in Belgrade. Here are a few of the main shopping areas you should visit while in the city.

Knez Mihailova

Considered the most affluent and popular place in Belgrade, Knez Mihailova is the main promenade that stretches through the heart of the city. The street is lined with department stores, boutiques, and coffee shops. Knez Mihailova proves to tourists and locals alike that the city has changed dramatically since its time in communist Yugoslavia.

Local Markets

Belgrade’s many local farmers and flea markets offer a real feel of the local atmosphere and Balkan culture. Take a walk through Zeleni Venac Market, also known as Zelenjak, or the popular flea market in Novi Beograd (New Belgrade) to find fresh fruits and vegetables, clothing, household goods, and more.

Street Vendors

Street vendors are dispersed throughout the city of Belgrade selling souvenirs, handicrafts, clothes, ice cream, and more. The stalls around Kalemegdan fortress sell traditional Serbian handicrafts such as glass, lace, wood crafts, and Yugoslav memorabilia from the country’s days in communist Yugoslavia. Watch out for the street vendors closer to the touristy areas such as near Knez Mihailova. They are known to charge tourists higher prices.

Modern Malls

Belgrade also has several large shopping centers, also known as “gallerias” to the locals. The largest shopping mall is Ušće, Belgrade’s most modern shopping and entertainment center. Ušće has more than 150 shops, a multiplex cinema, bowling, bars, and many restaurants. In addition to Ušće, there is also the Delta City mall and Zira Center.
