Things to Do in Altea, Spain

Altea Things to Do

The lovely city of Altea in Spain has so much to experience and explore. If this is your ideal destination, here are a few of the best things to do in Altea, Spain that you won’t want to miss.

Old Town

White houses, narrow and artistically curved streets, and sweet cafes are just a few characteristics of the beautiful old town area of Altea, Spain. One can cover the city in one hour or two on foot, but it’s even better to soak it in over the course of a few days. It’s a soothingly calm and tranquil place, and there are several terraces and spots to enjoy sea views and beaches. If you have time, there is also a unique church called “Church of Our Lady” which is approximately an hour and a half train ride away, including the time spent on changing the train once.

Beachside Views

The beaches of Altea alone are well worth the stop, and this area is classier than a “packaged holiday resort” and has managed to keep its Spanish feel. It does have some hotels along seafront, but is still nice, clean and quiet.  Altea’s beach and harbor are some of the loveliest on the Costa Blanca with around 6km’s of beautiful coastline. You can walk for miles. The beach has great views of Calpe Rock in the distance. It is a nice sandy beach in places, pebbled in others, and a trendy part – which has been made into a promenade – only adds to its appeal.

Shops

After you have eaten and enjoyed the views, take a walk back through the narrow white washed housed streets. As you get lower near the main road, you’ll find a huge selection of shops which run along the main road along with trendy places to eat and drink.

Nature Escape

Driving towards Benidorm  – which is just about 10 kilometers from Altea – you will come across a sign that mentions Callosa. Take this direction and just 3 kilometers out of town you will come across Fuentes de Algar, which is a combination of mountains, greenery, and waterfalls. It is simply fantastic. If the weather is good you might even have a small dip in the refreshing shallow pools. This area is also surrounded with many typical restaurants and shops, which makes a perfect day trip from Altea.
