Tips on Columbia Warnings or Dangers

Columbia Warnings and Dangers

Columbia is a beautiful part of South Carolina to visit. However, you should heed these warnings and dangers while traveling there.

Gang Violence

According to one traveler, “Columbia is safer than it gets credit for. The crime here is mainly focused around gang violence which shouldn’t affect anyone visiting here. There are really no places in the city that are dangerous during the day.”

Where Not to Venture in Columbia

Most places you want to venture in Columbia are relatively safe during the day. However, there are areas to avoid when spending time out in Columbia at night. North Main Street (located north of Earlwood park) is known for drug traffickers and dealers at all times. Waverly is another location to avoid altogether and is located east of downtown near Allen University and Benedict College, past Harden Street.

A few areas in downtown Columbia are known as “the slums,” complete with drugs and crime. The areas of Farrow Road and the Two Notch Road has been known for selling and buying drugs along with gang affiliation. Two Notch Road also has a reputation for prostitution. It is important to keep these locations in mind when you are planning to go sightseeing in Columbia or if you are there on vacation with others
