Madaba Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Madaba Transportation

You might think a city in the middle of the desert is hard to get to. However, Madaba, Jordan, is a vibrant and popular tourist destination that proves otherwise. It’s easy for visitors to come from the nearest big city: Amman.

Air Travel

Most visitors to Madaba will probably fly in through Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport, located thirty kilometers to the south of Amman. A recent renovation has made the older buildings to look and function like a more modern facility.

Taxis

Taxis are both practical and affordable throughout Jordan. Hiring a taxi for an entire week can cost as little as 250 euro, and visitors have shared stories of hiring a taxi for a few days and even meeting the driver’s family. While most taxis are very old and prone to breaking down, the drivers are skilled in maintenance and will get you back on your way soon. Remember that even the best drivers may not be able to overcome some unkempt streets, so be ready for a bumpy ride.

Bus Tours

Big buses travel to and from the popular sites in Madaba and to nearby locations like Petra. Most tour buses have guides who can speak a number of different languages, making it easy and practical to learn about the city. Most have air conditioning and some have bathrooms, while others make frequent stops so travelers can use the facilities and get snacks or water. This is one of the best ways to see Jordan’s famed sites.
