Corfu is the northern most of the Ionian Islands in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Greece. Conveniently located between Italy, Albania and Greece, Corfu is a bustling center of tourism year round.

Getting To Corfu

Ioannis Kapodistrias is the international airport on Corfu. There are daily year round flights from Athens to the island but in high season, which is April to October, and many other international and charter flights are available.

You can also catch one of the open ferries or high speed hydrofoils from these ports: Patras, Igoumenitsa, Paxi, Bari, Brindisi, or Triese. There is an overnight ship from Venice that has rooms and on board activities. NOTE: There is no ferry service directly from Athens.

Driving to Corfu also involves taking a ferry that allows cars in steerage. These are mostly on the slower open ferries that take about 2 hours. Make sure you book early as these slots limited

Greece has trains and bus service from all major cities to the Greek ports servicing Corfu, but seasonal time schedules vary.

Getting around Corfu

Taxis are plentiful and everywhere in Corfu Town. Let the driver know where you are headed and get a price from him before entering the cab.

There are two public bus systems on Corfu. Blue buses serve the Corfu Town municipal area, Green buses serve the rest of the island. Time tables are available online or at the bus kiosks.

Corfu is connected by two highways: GR-24 in the north and GR-25 in the south. Both are well maintained easy to navigate. Stick with one of the international rental companies as you will want full insurance while there. Parking in Corfu Town is not easy or cheap.

Corfu Town has a short term bike share service called EasyBike Brainbox with 8 locations for easy pick up and return. There are many shops that offer short and long-term rentals for bikes/scooters. If you are thinking of exploring the hilly interior, a motorbike or scooter might be a better option. Just remember to buy a good map of Corfu, and off you go!

A great way to explore the island and access beaches that can’t be easily accessed otherwise is to rent a boat. Most towns have at least one boat rental company and boats up to 30HP do not require a license to hire.
