Washington, D.C. – Unusual Attractions & Day Trips

Washington D.C. Off The Beaten Path

Tourist traps in Washington DC include the Smithsonian Museum and Madame Tussauds. To avoid these overly crowded attractions and save some money (though all Washington DC museums are free), here are some off the beaten path attractions worth seeing instead:

Barracks Row

As the oldest commercial district in the city, Barrack’s Row isn’t a major attraction but is a great way to get a taste of life in Washington DC. With many dining and shopping destinations, Barracks Row is an affordable attraction but one that many tourists enjoy. It is full of historic buildings that are truly a sight to see.

Take A Washington Walk’s Tour

The Washington Walk’s Tour features various themes and some takes visitors through some of D.C.’s most iconic neighborhoods. The tours to choose from include Embassy Row and The Most Haunted Houses. Other tours worth taking include DC By Foot and DC Design Tours.

Eastern Market

On a Saturday or Sunday, the Eastern Market is an off the beaten path attraction that many tourists find appealing. The market includes local artisan creations as well as produce grown fresh and shipped from local farms. It is one of the recommended places for tourists to enjoy an affordable yet delicious breakfast.

Washington National Cathedral

As Washington DC’s oldest construction project, Washington National Cathedral is considered to be a beautiful sight. On Sundays anyone can explore the cathedral, though guided tours the rest of the week require a payment to enter.
