Traveling to Virginia means a chance to explore American history more closely. This is where Confederate battles were fought. It is also where President Jefferson chose to make his home. There are also of miles of incredible beaches and fun beach towns like Virginia Beach.

Start With Nature

The interior of the state has much to offer. Start with scenic Shenandoah National Park for a close up look at regional wildlife including bald eagles. Come in the fall to enjoy the brightly colored foliage. The area has many places to hike but you can alive drive along Skyline Drive to get in the park faster.  Places like Norfolk and Newport are full of history and and Virginia Beach has a charming boardwalk that comes alive during the summer. Nearby, Jamestown brings the history of Native Americans to life.

American History is Alive

Virginia is rich with American history. You can tour Monticello, the legendary and unique home of Thomas Jefferson and the University of Virginia. Both are found in Charlottesville, a small town with a large pedestrian only area. In Williamsburg a town dedicated to showing off how people lived when the state was founded. Combine it with a fun day at the amusement park and rides at Busch Gardens. Another historic city is Fredericksburg with a forty-block historical area. Montpelier was the home of Jefferson’s fellow Virginian and successor President James Madison. Just outside Washington D.C., there are many places in Virginia worth a visit. Tour historic Alexandria on foot for a look at one of the area’s most charming cities or visit Mount Vernon to see the home of George Washington.
