Tips on Rochester Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Rochester Warnings and Dangers

The entire state of New York has gone through a renaissance in reducing crime levels over the last several decades. However, you should still educate yourself on some potentially dangerous situations.

Winter Weather

However, if you are from a region where you aren’t use to cold weather, you need to take care. Not only do you need to dress warmly but if you are not use to driving in the snow or ice it is better to avoid renting a vehicle.

Downtown Rochester

For the most part, Downtown Rochester is safe. However, like any other city of a similar size, there are some areas you should probably try to avoid. Areas to the northwest and southwest of downtown are a bit rundown. Crime levels are not drastically higher, but there isn’t much in way of restaurants or attractions you’ll want to see. You will want to avoid parking in this area as parked car crimes are higher in this area of the city. This includes smash and grabs.

Practice Safety When Out Walking

When out walking, it is important to practice safety. This is especially important during the winter months. Walkways can become slick, so if you are going out for the evening, avoid wearing shoes with heels.

Skip Upper Monroe Ave and Clinton Ave

These two streets have seen more violent crimes over the last five years than anywhere else in the city. Rochester did see a loss of jobs during the recent recession when factory and manufacturing jobs left. This has resulted in an increase in crime rates throughout the city, but specifically this area. While there are a few restaurants in the area, make sure to call a cab or have an Uber pick you up when leaving. You don’t want to walk far in this area after dark.

Drug Use

There is some drug use around Monroe and Clinton, but for the most part, this is not an issue you need to look out for outside of these two avenues.
