Tips on Naxos Island Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Naxos Island Warnings and Dangers

The Greek island of Naxos has great beaches and a beautiful countryside as well as a long and rich history. However, you should be prepared for anything unexpected as you travel around the island.

Be Careful on the Roads

Many of the roads on Naxos are narrow with a lot of curves, especially in the mountainous areas. If you’re driving on your own or riding a motorcycle, be very careful and always on the look out for people and animals on the roads. Many of the roads don’t have guard rails and you can sometimes see the remnants of vehicles which have gone off the road. You may also need to take some unpaved roads to reach certain destinations.

Fuel Up Whenever Possible

Some areas of the island don’t have any gas stations at all, so make sure your gas tank is as full as possible, especially if you don’t know the area. You may be able to obtain a gas station map at a tourist office. Gas stations are severely lacking in the southern and eastern parts of the island. Small scooters will consume gas very quickly when going up the hills on your way back from Vhora.

Know the Price of a Taxi

Before visiting Naxos, research the current taxi rates in the area as some taxi drivers tend to inflate their prices. Make sure you agree on a price before you set foot in the cab, especially if you’re planning to tour the villages. If you can’t rent your own car, scooter or motorcycle, then a better choice may be to take the bus.
