A large town that sits in the eastern state of New South Wales, Australia, the town of Moree occupies a comfortable spot along the banks of the Mehi River. Moree is a major agricultural center which also offers a number of things to do for visiting tourists.

The Architecture

The buildings around Moree have a unique style of their own combining modern art designs as well as ancient geometric design styles. In particular, Moree is filled with Art Deco architecture dating back to between 1920 and 1939. For $12, go on the guided walk that leads you around the 14 heritage-listed buildings.

There are lots of lovely homes to be found, many not in the Art Deco style but gorgeous, nonetheless. There are also three shops that survived the great floods of 1910, their storefronts well over 100 years old. These sit along the Moree Heritage Trail and offer visitors a look into the distant past. Finally, there are buildings reflecting both the Art Deco and the Federation Free style of architecture to be found along Frome Street, and include the police station, court house, Westpac Bank, and post office. The great diversity in construction makes for many photo opportunities.

Those staying in town overnight can look to the Moree Hotel, which houses a typical two-story pub with spacious verandas. It’s located on the eastern side of town where the road heads out to the Gwydir Highway. For those looking to enjoy dining and music with their drinks, Moree also hosts a food, wine, and art festival which gives tourists and locals alike a chance to come together, enjoy a glass of wine, and admire the works of local artists as they enjoy the live music.
