Sharjah Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Sharjah Transportation

Whether you’re looking to travel in luxury or want to pinch every penny, Sharjah in Saudi Arabia has a fitting transportation option. Here are some of the most popular options among travelers, as well as a few tips to consider from people who have already visited.

Buses

The bus system within Sharjah is easy to use. Once you identify the schedule and routes, you can visit most places throughout the city. There aren’t as many buses regularly coming through as you might expect in European cities, but the buses are modern and on time.

There are also long-distance busses. If you don’t want to spend a large amount of money traveling in the country, you can easily book a bus that travels from Sharjah to Dubai. Just head over to the main bus station and buy your ticket there. The bus seats inside are similar to airline seats, only with more lumbar support.

Shuttle

A shuttle can pick you up from the airport or take you to Dubai from Sharjah. Your hotel may be able to book you a shuttle. There are also plenty of independent shuttle services. These will cost a bit more than a bus, but if you enjoy a smaller, less crowded means of transportation, this is the way to go.

Sharjah Airport

The Sharjah airport is small. With Dubai so close, most flights go directly to Dubai. While the airport is smaller, it is efficient and it can reduce the crowds. Air Arabia is the main airliner out of Sharjah Airport. It is more of a low-cost carrier, as most of the larger airlines fly into Dubai.

Taxi

Sometimes flying into Sharjah over Dubai is significantly cheaper simply because of Air Arabia. If you land and still need to make it to Dubai, you can book a cab. This will usually run you about $30, depending where in the city you need to go.

Taxi Tip

When looking for taxis, you are going to find there are two options: metered and not metered. Always go with the metered taxis. This is a universal tip for just about anywhere in the world. When someone tries to quote you a price, it is almost certainly more expensive. Stick with a meter.
