Rhodes (Island) Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tip

Rhodes (Island) Shopping

There are some unique shopping opportunities in on the island of Rhodes in Greece. While yes, you can find the regular tourist spots, there are plenty of other shopping destinations to check out as well.

The Tourist Shops

Most of the shops in Rhodes Town cater specifically to tourists. Many also carry exactly the same thing. Even if you don’t buy anything though, it’s still fun to just walk through the streets and take it all in. Some nice restaurants are located here as well. Just keep in mind you’ll likely pay a lot more for items purchased here than in other areas around the island.

Look Out for Folk Art

You’ll be able to find some excellent examples of folk art on Rhodes. Expect to pay more for original folk than you would for the mass-produced trinkets of the souvenir shops. But you’ll take home works that local artisans actually sat down and handcrafted themselves, so it will be far more meaningful. So if you can, try to support the actual local artists by purchasing handmade crafts.

Try Some Local Wine

One of the best ways to understand a local culture is to understand their drink. In Rhodes, it is wine. The soil and climate of the island directly affects the growth of the grapes and the taste of the wine. In Butterfly Valley, you’ll find a large, stretched out white building with a pinkish-red roof. This is a vineyard and shop. You can take a vineyard tour if you’d like, or just sample and purchase wine from the local vineyard.

Old City

Make sure to visit the Old City and check out everything for sale here. While the shops are similar to what you’ll find around town, walking through this area is simply fun.

Note: Don’t Be Afraid to Bargain

You generally don’t have to accept the first price offered–you can haggle. For some this can feel a bit odd, but it is a way of life and something you should do. Plus, why pay the over the top price when you can reduce it by a good amount?
