Montpellier Nightlife – Clubs, Bars & Nightlife Tips

Montpellier Nightlife

When traveling through the south of France, you will notice that many of the towns and cities along the coast have a strong Greek or Roman foundation thanks to the medieval shipping routes that utilized the coast. This is not true when it comes to Montpellier. In fact, it is one of the only cities in Southern France that doesn’t have a heavy Greek or Roman influence. It has a noted Spanish population and influence, which contributes to its bustling nightlife scene.

Hit the Streets at Night

The Spanish influence is very recognizable when it comes to the hours that people keep in the city. The party in the streets starts late at night and goes on until dawn. In the city center, most restaurants have their outside tables open all night offering service to passersby. It is truly a Mediterranean city in this respect.

Babarousse

This club doesn’t look like much from the outside. When you make your way through the unassuming entrance you will see that it is one of the most popular nightclubs in the city. Go here if big crowds are your thing. You might even get swept up into an impromptu dance party in the process. Don’t dress too casually or you won’t be let in.

Place de Comedie

The Place de Comedie is the town square in the center of town. It is located near the university, so it is always teeming with energy thanks to all the students. There is a bar for everyone in the Place de Comedie, including British and Irish pubs. Be warned, though, they don’t serve fans of the opposing soccer team when they come to the city on match day. The Place de Comedie is the spot to catch street performers in the summer evenings.

Keep It Going After Hours at IDEM

A big student population means there are going to be some late night partiers. This bar blasts loud music and keeps the drinks flowing until the wee hours of the morning. There are also some places to chill as you wind down at the end of your night. If late night action is what you are looking for, this is the place.
