A vacation in Spain can be the vacation of a lifetime, especially if you have the chance to visit the beautiful Mediterranean coastline and bask in the sun.  Tourists come to Malgrat de Mar, a seaside town just an hour drive outside of Barcelona, but getting there can be a challenge depending on your travel plans.

Flight Path

There’s no airport at Malgrat de Mar. The closest airport is the Girona-Costa Brava airport, about a half-hour drive north, but most visitors will fly in through the Barcelona-El Prat airport in the nearby big city.

Bus Route

Spain’s buses are clean and reliable. Regular bus routes operated by Transpujol run from Barcelona to Malgrat de Mar. The big tourist buses have video screens and will stop every few hours for bathroom breaks, snacks, smokes, or photos. The buses run all up and down the Spanish coast, meaning you do not need to rent a car in order to get transport to and from Malgrat de Mar.

Train Service

The Malgrat de Mar train station is rustic but dependable, with a classic style that may make the a traveler think they’re in a Hemingway story.  The station connects to nearby Blanes, where you can either take a (long) walk to Malgrat de Mar or get a short taxi.

Other train station connections include Calella, which is about five miles away.  A daily train runs between Malgrat de Mar and Barcelona, with multiple departures to accomodate your schedule.  Most clerks will speak some English to help tourists.
