Darwin – What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Darwin What to Pack

With its national parks and year round warm weather, Darwin, Australia, is a great part of the world to get away for a good hike or walkabout. When packing, keep in mind that you’re headed for year-round summer—and that means heat, mosquitoes, and sometimes rain.

Luggage

No matter what you have planned for your Darwin adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.

Dress for the Heat

It’s important to pack the items you need to stay cool and protected from the sun when going to Darwin. Your most important belonging, therefore, should be sunscreen. Don’t forget other sun protection, like hats and sunglasses. To stay cool in the heat, wear shorts, and to stay cool but avoid a sunburn, wear shirts with sleeves (or a light jacket).

Dress for Rainy Season

Although it’s warm year round in Darwin, that doesn’t mean there isn’t rain. In fact, an entire rainy season runs from October to April each year. If your visit falls within these months, bring gear to protect you from the water: rain boots, ponchos, hats, umbrellas, and raincoats. It’s still humid during the wet months, so you might want something to cool you down, such as a personal fan.

Clothes to Pack

Pack Your Favorite Hiking Gear

Most tourists end up hiking through the national parks in Darwin, so hiking gear is a must. No matter what other gear you have for sunny or rainy weather, good, supportive hiking boots are a must. If your shoes aren’t supportive, you’ll start to feel uncomfortable very quickly. Also remember that gorgeous sights are often seen on hikes, meaning a good camera that is fully charged, and perhaps a pair of binoculars, is called for. Bring a plug adapter if you are from a different continent. And above all, don’t forget your bug spray!
