Amman Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Attractions & Must-See Sights in Amman

Discover the most popular attractions in the city of Amman. Jordan’s capital is vibrant city with many historical sights and things to do, especially if you love nature and architecture.

Where to Eat and Grab Refreshments

Amman features many juice bars, sweet shops, and pastry shops. Some of the juice bars have places to sit, so you can rest your feet after a long walk.

Pastry shops are located all around Amman, but the one located in King Faisal Street is well-known for its high-quality pastries. In particular it offers Knaify, which is a pastry with melted cheese covered with shredded wheat, and then covered in syrup for a unique taste.

Enjoy a special dining experience at Beit Sitti, a restaurant popular with locals and tourists that teaches you how to cook four different dishes. You then get to eat the delicious food you’ve prepared while chatting with others and enjoying the spectacular view of downtown Amman. This place is highly recommended if you want to get a taste of the local cuisine, and after you return from your trip, you’ll be able to impress your friends and family by showing off your new cooking abilities.

Argila Hookah

Hookah refers to a water pipe used for smoking flavored tobacco, and it’s extremely common across the Middle East and in Amman. You’ll find hookah lounges as well as cafes that offer hookah. The flavored tobacco is often called shisha, and if you’re interested in trying it, stop by one of the many shops offering it and try out various flavors, including apple, banana, and honey. For the complete experience, grab a cup of tea to enjoy along with it, called shea, and relax with others while watching TV.

Sights to See

Visit the National Art Gallery to see a collection of Arabic and Muslim artwork. You’ll see everything from paintings, ceramics, calligraphy, and sculptures. The gallery is separated into two buildings. The building in the south features abstract artwork and Arabic calligraphy, and if you go to the third floor, you’ll find a cafe where you can grab something to eat. In the north building, you’ll find paintings of buildings, people, and landscapes. Stop by the shop to browse through books, local craft items, and cards.

The Duke’s Diwan was the first two-story building in Amman, and it was recently rented and preserved by Mamdouh Bisharat. This is a lively place where artists and writers meet to relax and chat. In Arabic, diwan refers to a section of a house with doors that are always open to guests. Located in the heart of the city, this is a good place to visit if you’re interested in seeing architecture from a different era.
