Alicante Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Tips for Alicante Transportation by Taxi, Train, Bus, or Airport

Alicante is a beautiful port city in Spain and a major tourist destination. It features incredible food and a vibrant nightlife scene. It’s important to know the best ways to maneuver through the city in order to ensure your trip goes smoothly.

Taxi

Taxis in the city aren’t very expensive, and they’re a convenient way to travel short distances. If you’re going far, use the bus or tram. Some choose to avoid using cabs and walk through the main strip, as it only takes approximately two hours to get across the strip and the weather in Alicante is quite nice year-round.

Train

Avoid traffic jams by traveling via tram. There are three stations in the city: MARQ (located near the Archeology Museum of Alicante), Mercado (near the central market), and Luceros (located below Plaza de los Luceros). During the summer months the tram runs on a longer schedule, and you’ll have no problem getting a ride late into the night. It’s easy to buy tickets at machines and counters at the station. If you plan to frequently travel via tram, you can buy discount cards at kiosks and tobacconists.

Bus

The C-6 bus offers easy transportation between the city center and the airport. There are three buses that arrive each hour, and you can expect to wait about 20 minutes for one to arrive. The buses run from approximately 6:40 to 23:00. A ticket from the airport to the downtown area costs about four Euros.

One of the easiest ways to save money is to purchase a Bonobús, which is a transportation card that lets you use all city buses and ride the tramway all the way to El Campello. This card cuts the cost per trip almost in half, and if you take two buses (or a tram and a bus) within one hour, you’ll only have to pay for one trip.

You can also take a bus to get from Alicante to other major cities in the country, such as Valencia, Barcelona, and Madrid. For long-distance bus rides, you’ll need to venture to the bus station at Muelle de Poniente, which is located at the port.

Airport

When you land at the airport, you can take the C-6 bus line to get to the city’s center. Three buses arrive each hour, and the trip takes about 30 minutes. If you’d rather take a more personal method of transportation, you can flag down a taxi at the terminal. All taxis are provided by Elche Taxi, so if you’d like to save time, you can visit the company’s website to book a cab online.

There are nine rental car companies at the airport, providing you with a variety of options if you want to drive yourself.

The airport features a large shopping area, so you can find clothes, accessories, souvenirs, or places to eat and grab a drink. This spacious airport provides a variety of amenities that help you relax and enjoy yourself after your plane lands.
