The city has seen large economic growth and increased prosperity and these areas are more vibrant than ever.

Central Ave

Old Hwy 66 also called Central Ave is five to six mile stretch of road where there are a number of dilapidated hotels and other buildings. When driving down this road at night, especially on the weekends, it is recommended you don’t turn north or south into the area of town between Eubank and Wyoming. This area is known as the War Zone and is said to be riddled with gang violence and other crime. It is best to avoid this area all together when in Albuquerque.

Weather and Health

People who have problems with asthma and with altitude sickness should beware before entering Albuquerque. “We are a mile high and quite dry,” as the locals say. If you plan to go rock climbing or you plan to spend time hiking outdoors, especially if you live at sea level most of the year, take precautions to anticipate these symptoms. Make sure to also drink lots of water as the area has a drying effect.
