Take a Heritage Walk

Stop by the Tourist Information Center. They have a trail you can follow that lets you explore the city on your own. For another look at the town, head for the observation tower on the Condamine River. Be mindful as the steps to the top are steep and may not be ideal for young children. The area follows the river and offers access to fresh air and lush green open parks. Federation Park is next to the river, it has many sculptures honoring the local area Aboriginal culture that help demonstrate their concept of dreamtime. You’ll find an explanation underneath each sculpture.

The Australian Rodeo

Rodeo is not just an American pastime. It’s a huge part of the local culture. Visit the Australian Rodeo Museum. This unique place shows off many aspects of rodeo including elaborate saddles, beautiful silver buckles, and a list of of famous rodeo participants. There’s also a live rodeo demonstration. The actual rodeo takes place here during late October and goes on for a full week. Expect huge crowds if you come then Book your accommodations well in advance if you want to stay here. Once here, you’ll encounter lots of horse and multiple rodeo competitions all week long. Head for the center of the town for the Rose and Rodeo Festival street parade. Watch as pretty floats go by and listen for live music and dancing. Bring a folding chair and get there early so you can get a good spot along the parade route.

Other Events

When the rodeo is going on, you’ll find lots of other events in town as well. The Warwick Craft market is held on the Saturday when the rodeo is in town. Head for Leslie Square for some shopping. There’s a playground for the kids and lots of things to eat. You may have to park further away and walk there because parking spots can be scarce. There’s a Mardi Gras event at this time of year with lots of food stalls and a competition for best store window.
