Things to Do in Leavenworth, Washington State

Leavenworth Things to Do

Leavenworth is a quaint small town located at the outskirts of the Wenatchee National Forest. The town is modeled after an old-fashioned Bavarian village, giving the town a European feel.

Endless Shopping Opportunities

For a small town with a population of less than 2,000 residents, Leavenworth has a surprising number of unique shops for visitors to enjoy. Some of the shops sell standard tourist fare, like t-shirts, coffee mugs and magnets, all emblazoned with the town’s name. However, many more of the shops sell specialty items that you would have difficulty finding anywhere else. For example, there are several Christmas stores, in one of which you can purchase handmade Nativity figurines made in the Peruvian style. Many of the Christmas stores are open throughout the year, making this an ideal destination for purchasing unique ornaments.

Reconnect with Nature

With a National Forest right next door, it is virtually impossible not to enjoy the beauty of the world around you when staying in Leavenworth. Even within the town itself, you can see spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains in all their splendor. They’ll be snow-capped in the winter and lush and green in the summer, so any time of year is great for viewing. Leavenworth is also known for its flowers. Just about every home, storefront and building features potted plants and hanging gardens, including marigolds, begonias, dahlias, petunias and more. A visit during the spring will give you the chance to see all of these flowers in bloom for a spectacularly colorful experience.

Celebrate like a German

Because Leavenworth is designed in the fashion of an old Bavarian village, no visit to the town would be complete without a visit a traditional German biergarten, Munchen Haus. You can enjoy sitting outside in the beer garden even during the winter, as staff will bring you a tray of hot coals over which to warm your hands. Sip mulled wine and German beer while digging into a variety of pretzels and bratwurst offerings. To complete your Bavarian experience, Studio 1890 gives you the chance to have your photo taken wearing traditional Bavarian garb. Western wear is also available, but the Bavarian clothing is in keeping with the true European vibe of the town.
