What’s on Your Travel Bucket List?

If the world is really going to end in 2012 as some people predict, what do you want to have checked off your bucket list before then?

Our sister site SniqueAway recently launched a My Bucket List Facebook app, which got us thinking about what’s on our must-see list. Here at SmarterTravel, our buckets have grown exponentially with the launch of our new Daily Daydream. We’ll need a lot more vacation days in 2012 if we’re going to check off all the amazing new places we’ve uncovered during our research.

A travel bucket list doesn’t have to be full of exotic, unknown countries. SniqueAway’s app lets you put down anything, from a new city or hotel to a restaurant that you want to try.

At the end of 2010, I decided to stop with all my usual boring resolutions that focused on not doing certain things (like eating junk food, drinking excessive amounts of coffee, etc.). Instead, I decided to focus on a positive resolution—to visit three new countries in 2011. With that goal in mind, I ended up checking off three destinations on my bucket list—Panama, Iceland, and the Galapagos Islands. I may not have kicked my caffeine habit this year, but 2011 turned out to be one of the best and most memorable years of my life because of that resolution.

I aim to continue my travel resolution trend with a new one for 2012—to visit a new continent before 2013. With places like Australia, Asia, and Antarctica on my list, the hardest part will be picking just one! (And funding my plane ticket …)

So who wants to join me by checking some spots off their bucket list in 2012? Are you planning on finally trying out that new restaurant in your town, taking a road trip to a new city, or jetting off to a new country this year? If you could check off one item on your bucket list in 2012, what would it be?
