Top Five Bargain Destinations for Spring 2011

Whether you’ve got your sights set on Europe, Australia, or somewhere closer to home, now is the time to start planning spring travel. The lower prices of spring are the calm before the summer storm of high travel costs and big crowds. This spring, hit an undiscovered wine trail in Europe, find your own Outback, or dine your way through a closer-to-home slice of France, all for less than usual.

I’ve monitored trends, industry news, and sale patterns to point you in the direction of places that offer the best bargain values for the coming season. Below you’ll find examples of deals presently available for spring trips. Like all deals, these are sure to expire; however, a little research on your part can yield similar results when you’re ready to book.

Montreal

In true Canadian style, travelers can say both hello and bonjour to bargains in Montreal this spring. More booking options and city-wide hotel deals put North America’s taste of France within easy reach of travelers on a budget.

Delta Air Lines and Canadian low-cost carrier WestJet just launched an interline agreement that gives Delta passengers greater access to Canadian destinations—including Montreal—on a single ticket. On May 2, WestJet will also launch additional service between Toronto and Montreal with a unique guarantee: Passengers with flights delayed more than 30 minutes will receive 50 percent off their next flight on the route.

Tourisme Montreal’s current Sweet Deal promotion, which runs through May 31, delivers 50 percent off a second night’s stay, with rates from $115 USD a night at participating hotels. The deal includes free breakfast, high-speed Internet access, and room upgrades, plus extras such as gift certificates, bath products, and wine tastings. The For Foodies packages, with rates from $109 USD per night, come with free metro tickets, discounts on food tours, and exclusive treats at restaurants.
