JetBlue Considering Service in Hartford

Many in Hartford bemoaned the loss of their beloved Whalers years ago, but now the Insurance Capital of the World may be landing a whale of a different sort: JetBlue.

The Hartford Courant reports that JetBlue is considering a move to Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (actually located in nearby Windsor Locks, Connecticut) in the near future, with likely service to Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Adding Hartford would give JetBlue a presence in pretty much every main market in New England, from Boston to Burlington to Portland, Maine.

Hartford would also provide access to travelers in Connecticut and western Massachusetts who aren’t keen on the long drive to Boston or, more importantly, JFK. Both airports are two-and-a-half to three hours from Hartford.

Hartford is currently served by Southwest, American, Delta, United, US Airways, and Continental, as well as many of those airlines’ regional affiliates.
