The Top Five Frequent Flyer Deals for June 2009

There are many, many promotions. But there are only a few really, really good ones.

In this monthly roundup, we highlight the five most lucrative offers currently available to members of airline and hotel loyalty programs.

(Promotions are listed in alphabetical order.)

1. Alaska Airlines’ Double Miles

Time is running out on the only promotion from a major airline that is as serious as the travel slump it was designed to address.

[% 2894921 | | Alaska Airlines %] is offering double miles for all Alaska and Horizon Air flights through June 30. The bonus applies to all flights, in all classes of service. And making a good deal even better, the double miles can be redeemed for awards and counted toward elite qualification.

Thanks, Alaska, for getting this one right.

2. Delta, US Airways Shuttle Bonuses

[% 3234264 | | Delta %] fired the first shot in this skirmish, offering quintuple bonus miles—2,500 in addition to the 500 miles normally awarded—for every one-way shuttle flight between New York and Boston or Washington, D.C., through July 26.

Customers of [% 3279866 | | US Airways %], which operates the other East Coast shuttle, were left to wait and wonder for two weeks before they were offered a comparable bonus for flights through August 15.

With these two promotions in place, shuttle customers can earn 6,000 miles for every round-trip flight.

3. Triple Miles for (Expensive) Hong Kong Flights

Flying to Hong Kong in first or business class? Count your blessings, and your miles.

Between June 15 and August 15, members of the Asia Miles, American AAdvantage, and Alaska Mileage Plan programs can earn triple miles for round-trip first- or business-class flights on Cathay Pacific between North America (Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Vancouver) and Hong Kong.

Let’s count: The actual mileage between New York and Hong Kong is 16,118. In the Asia Miles and Mileage Plan programs, there’s a 50% class-of-service bonus for first class, bringing the total to 24,178. Triple that, and the total number of miles earned for the trip is 72,534.

4. Summer Hotel Offers

Whether you’re planning a budget road trip with the kids or a business trip where price is no object …

Whether you’re headed for Boise, Beijing, or Budapest …

Whether you prefer Best Western, Carlson, Choice, Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental, Loews, Marriott, Omni, Radisson, Starwood, or Wyndham …

An even dozen of the world’s leading hotel chains want your business this summer, and they’re offering free nights, bonus miles, bonus points, and cash cards to get it.

5. US Airways’ Partner Bonus

Through July 31, members of US Airways’ Dividend Miles program can earn 50 percent more miles for eligible hotel and rental car transactions. Mileage-earning stays at all partner hotels and rentals from all rental car partners qualify for the bonus, as do hotel points-to-miles conversions, where allowed.
