Websites tell you where to go in ’07

‘Tis the season for lists. Not the Santa shopping lists, which all expired Sunday at midnight. I mean the lists of places you absolutely, positively have to visit in 2007. For as sure as Ralphie gets his Red Ryder BB gun every year, there are people lining up to tell you where to go. From Australia to Zanzibar, this year’s first crop of recommendations reveals just how imaginative travel writers can be.

  • Frommers.com takes the balanced approach, mixing the familiar with the exotic, Minneapolis with Ethiopia.
  • Fodors.com, apparently sensing the surge in adventure travel interest, opts for 10 Must-Do Adventures for 2007, including trips to Bonaire and Transylvania.
  • If you want advice from someplace other than a major travel brand, realbuzz.com offers up a diverse global list, ranging from Cuba to South Africa.
  • Finally, looking up at the world from Down Under, news.com.au reports its Hot destinations for 2007, and adds Bhutan and Namibia to the list.

No destination appeared on all four lists, but Australia, Costa Rica, Bulgaria, and China all showed up on two sets of picks for 2007. I’ll take it all under advisement and start making my own list.
